OCT 3rd, 2006. Time: 8:35 pm. Unidentified flying objects were spotted during the flight TAM8004 from São Paulo, SP, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, when the plane was traveling over the region of Bagé, a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The UFOs were emitting flashing lights, approaching and moving away from the aircraft. The witness also reported  that the lights from the UFOs were blinking in random and they were at an altitude of approximately 36.000ft.

The following is a transcription of the COMDABRA’s report [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] with the text partially unreadable due to the wear conditions of the document:

“TAM8004, taking off from SBGR [Guarulhos Airport, SP] […] bound for SAEZ [Ezeiza Airport, Buenos Aires, Argentina], type A300 aircraft […] When the aircraft crosses west sector to Bagé, at approximately 10NM [nautical miles] from the location, the pilot reported lights in the direction 2 and 3 hours in relation to the aircraft, slightly above, lights with flashing points that moved away and approached the aircraft. received no information […] referred to lights in its […] At this moment the information […] Radar of Santiago did not present any […] in the vicinity of TAM8004. … of the limit of the FIR CURITIBA and […] for the ACC-MONTEVIDEO, there was no time for further information, as […] it featured several cirrus formations, without thunderstorms.

NOV 12th, 2006. Time: 7:00 pm. Duration: 5 minutes. An unidentified flying object was sighted by the pilot and detected by the TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) of the airline of flight VARIG 9511 from Lisbon, Portugal, to Recife, Pernambuco. According to the witness’s report, the UFO had the appearance of a luminous point and was sighted by the pilot under conditions of visibility described as “optimal”,  and 3 nautical miles away from flight VARIG9511, with an estimated speed of 350km and at an altitude of 1,000 ft, moving from North to South. Additional observations in the COMDABRA’s [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] report add that:

“The commander […] of VARIG 9511 from Lisbon, Portugal, to Recife, Pernambuco, after performing a TCAS […] maneuver, which triggered APP-RE [Recife Approach Control] on possible traffic at TCAS. APP-RE reported that it was unaware of the traffic and that the radars were working normally. Six (six) minutes later, when it was at 1,000ft, it had visual contact with something described as a light spot flying in the F100. It immediately checked the equipment [. ..] and found that it was ok. On the ground, the VARIG mechanic checked all the equipment. The commander […] said that there could be many possibilities, […] and perhaps an checking the transponder – and who didn’t know exactly what had really happened. “

DEC 18, 2006. Time: 5:00 am. Duration: 4 minutes. Near the city of Florianópolis, State of Santa Catarina, a pilot of a FAB A-29 aircraft [Brazilian Air Force], which was traveling from Florianópolis to Campo Grande (MS), sighted white light UFO going in the Northwest/Southeast direction and fast in the opposite direction to that of the A-29. The UFO wasn’t detected by the aircraft’s TCAS or Radar systems. There was also no record of condensation trails or electrical and communication equipment interference caused by the sighting.

Due to the wear conditions of the file copy made available, some information about this case is missing, but it is possible to have a general idea of ​​what happened from what can be read in the COMDABRA’s report [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] as transcribed with the observations below:

“[…] informs that he was doing a transfer from SBFL [Florianópolis] to SBCG [Campo Grande], night flight, aircraft A-29 [A-29 of FAB – Super Tucano manufactured by EMBRAER], when he saw a light moving in the opposite direction […] At the time of observation as[ked] the flight contr [oller] if there was any aircraft […] the controller stated that the closest aircraft to the A-29 was more than 100NM away [ nautical miles] “

FEB 20th, 2007. Time: 00h13am. Duration: approximately 2 minutes. A witness was in the Copacabana neighborhood, in the south zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, on a clear night, when he spotted two unidentified flying objects moving near the sea, towards the neighborhoods of Botafogo and Flamengo. The UFOs were two big flying saucers, and one of them was slightly larger than the other. They emitted colors that varied between red, green and white, and were making oblique trajectories and rising slowly to an altitude that the witness was unable to inform.

MAR 11, 2007. Time: 9:00 pm. Duration: 01 hour. In the neighborhood of Bairro Alto, in the city of Curitiba, State of Paraná, a witness reported the sighting of four unidentified oval flying objects, larger than an airplane and an opalescent aspect [varied colors in a milky aspect]. The UFOs, according to the witness, flew during one entire hour with slow speed at about 3 km of altitude, moving at random and making zigzags. No interference on electrical and telephony devices was reported, nor condensation trails seen. Additional observations in the report of COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] also informed that: “Four points of lights, in zigzag; remained close, with different orbits, for approximately 01 hour.”

APRIL 18th, 2007. Time: 19h52 pm. Duration: 15 minutes. It was reported between the cities of Itajubá and São Lourenço, State of Minas Gerais, the sighting of an unidentified flying object in a circular shape, silver color, with low movement/almost stationary. The UFO was observed for approximately 15 minutes under good visibility conditions, with no reports of trails or any interference in electricity, telephone sets or any noise heard.

MAY 9th, 2007. Time: 8:35 pm. Duration: 10 minutes. In the vicinity of Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais, the pilots of two different flights reported seeing an unidentified flying object in the form of a strong yellow light, stationary, and at an altitude of approximately 35,000ft. Witnesses reported that the visibility conditions were good at the time of sighting. The report the two pilots filled to inform COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] about the sighting also brings the following:

“TAM3465 PILOTS [SBBR / SBGR – from Brasilia to Guarulhos] AND TAM3071 PILOTS [SBBR / SBPA – from Brasilia to Porto Alegre] reported to the ACC-BSB [Brasília Area Control Center] that they were seeing a light very strong to the right of your aircraft, thinking at first that this was essential traffic. Both were in the same location at the time of reporting. They did not report either shape or size, only that it was a very strong light. There was no contact [ de] radar by CINDACTA Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control] “

MAY 11th, 2007. Communicated to CINDACTA 03 [Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control] at 9:20 pm. Under a clear sky and under good visibility conditions, when approaching the Aracaju Airport [State of Sergipe], the pilot of flight VARIG2343 reported seeing an unidentified flying object with the aspect of an intense light, a “lighthouse”, flying almost in the opposite direction of his descending aircraft. According to the witness, the UFO was at an altitude of 34,000ft. The pilot did not report any interference, traces or trails left by the object in its flight, or even the UFO detection by his aircraft’s radar system. Below are additional notes in the COMDABRA Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command report]:
“WHEN HE WAS FIVE MINUTES FROM ARACAJU […] HE SIGHTED THE HEADLIGHTS OF AN  AIRPLANE ON, FROM ITS 11AM HOURS, SAME LEVEL [FL340] THE CO-PILOT WITNESSED THE FACT […] INFO[…] THAT THE “LIGHTHOUSE “HAD BEEN LIT UP, FOR APPROX. 10 TO 15 SECONDS, AND [THEN] DELETED.”

SEPT 24, 2007. Time: 7:00 pm. Duration: 60 seconds. A resident of Parque Dez, in the city of Manaus, State of Amazonas, contacted the COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] to report the sighting of a flashing white UFO, apparently stationary in the sky. According to the witness, the weather conditions and visibility were good. In the official report of the sighting, the following observations were made by the UFO observer: “The object presented itself without movement, seemed to stand still and emitted white light flashing with certain synchronism in the unknown interval with a total duration of the event of about 50 seconds. After this interval, it simply disappeared into the sky. The informant, according to his own knowledge, tried using the google earth software to estimate the geographic position of the apparition according to the following data: 030439S 0600009W “

OCT 1st, 2007. Time: 3:43 am. Duration: 01 hour. Pilots on flights TAM8077 [from Manaus, Amazonas, to Belém, Pará] and VLO 7421 [from Miami, FL, USA, to Manaus, Amazonas] reported the sighting and also the detection with the TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) of an unidentified flying object that was very luminous, and moving from East to West at about 39.0000ft in altitude. According to the witnesses, the conditions of visibility were very good, with “clear sky at night”. The UFO followed the TAM8077 flight, forcing the pilot to make an evasive maneuver. Also according to the report by COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command]: “The pilot of flight TAM8077, SBEG [Aeroporto de Manaus, AMAZONAS] / SBBE [Aeroporto de Belém, Pará] FL390, flying over the sector between the VOR STM and the AMVER position, made an evasive maneuver on the right up to bow 140 to avoid traffic, claiming to have seen traffic at 12 o’clock position and emitting strong light. He also informed that the object was accused in TCAS. The pilot also informed that the referred light followed the flight until close to SBBE [Aeroporto de Belém, Pará] and that he thought it was a space station. Another pilot, on flight VLO 7421, KMIA [INTERNATIONAL from MIAMI-FL-USA]/ SBEG [Aeroporto de Manaus, AMAZONAS] FL350 flying over the sector on the RDL 350 MAN 60NM, also reported seeing a light at the 9 o’clock position, when at that moment there was no traffic in that position”.
