At the Salvador Approach Control (APP-SV), at the Salvador Airport, State of Bahia, a military radar operator reported that “three primary plots were observed; the first being in the RDL240 from 40 to 50NM. The second being the inverse and the third in the RDL060 from 35NM to 50NM, with speed varying from 450kt to 500kt [approx. 926km/h]. The unknown objects were followed by the APP-SV radar in position 240° and 060° for 20 minutes. The witness who reported the event to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] stated that it was recorded on the radar video gear. The document also states that: “It was reported that during the observation, the SV radar [in Salvador-Bahia] was undergoing maintenance [ …] that did not detect the visualization when the plots […]. In COPM3 nothing was observed. “

MAY 25th, 1996. Time: 18h50. Duration: 40 minutes. Six people from the window of an apartment in Brasilia, Distrito Federal, observed an unidentified flying object “the size of an airplane”, with a “round shape and strong white lights. According to one of the witnesses who reported to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command], the UFO remained stationary at an altitude of approximately 5km, and it was observed from a distance [horizontal] of about 15km. Also according to the witness, the UFO remained in the southern sector of the city and then moved in a straight path. The sighting took place with the naked eye and was filmed and photographed, however the photos and videos were not made available in this file.

MAY 26th, 1996. Time: 18h20. Duration: 60 minutes. In the Santa Cândida neighborhood in Curitiba, State of Paraná, about 30 people followed the erratic movements of two unidentified flying objects in the “sunset direction” at about 5km of altitude. According to one of the witnesses who reported to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command], the UFOs were shaped like “lights that turn on and off”, with silver and orange colors. The unknown objects were flying at high speed, positioning themselves one above the other, when making vertical and horizontal movements. The witness also reported seeing the UFOs with the naked eye, under a clear sky, and claimed to have taken photographs, but the photos were not made available with this file.

JUNE 2nd, 1996. Time: 21h07 pm. Duration: 15 minutes. In the Asa Norte region, in Brasília, Distrito Federal, a person “was in the parking lot inside his car, when he saw a strange object. Soon after, he went to his residence and continued to see the object”. According to the witness, the sky was clear and he saw the UFO with his naked eyes moving towards the airport. The object was shaped like a star, with blue and red colors, and moved at an altitude of approximately 1km from the Southwest position in relation to its residence. The report by COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] also states that: “It is not the first time that [the witness] called to talk about UFO. In 1988 [he] had an accident at his home and received an electrical discharge on his forehead” .

JUNE 6th, 1996. 18h30 pm. Duration: 30 minutes. When arriving at her residence in Samabaia Sul, Federal District, a woman observed an unidentified flying object 500 meters high. According to the witness, the UFO was also spotted by at least four other people nearby. The object was oval, white, green and red, about the size of “a helicopter approximately” and it was flying at a “slow, almost stopped” speed. The unknown object was observed with the naked eye, under good visibility conditions and followed a trajectory in the South / North direction.

JULY 4th, 1996. Time: 11h30 am. Duration: 15 to 30 seconds. In his residence in Florianópolis, State of Santa Catarina, a commercial pilot observed, with the naked eye, an unidentified flying object that was “different from conventional aerodynamic patterns”. According to the witness, the UFO was “3 or 4 times larger than the aircraft that was flying close to the object” and it had “light beige” color. The UFO flew at an estimated altitude of 31,000ft, going from the Northeast to the Southwest, with “the same speed as the near aircraft, with momentary acceleration and deceleration afterwards”. No photographs or footage of the sighting were taken.

AUG 17th 1996. Time: 5:27 pm. Duration: 60 minutes. During an astronomy exhibition in the city of Araçatuba, State of São Paulo, several people observed six unidentified flying objects, moving “in all directions, varied trajectories” for approximately one hour. According to witnesses, the UFOs were round in shape, gray in color, and moved at variable speeds at an altitude of about 5km. The event was observed with the naked eye and in good visibility.

AUG 14th, 1996. Time: 20h45. During: 15 minutes. The pilot and two other people observed, with the naked eye, from the cabin of the aircraft of Flight VARIG 64391-5, an unidentified flying object that was static at an altitude of FL500 [50,000ft] near the city of Lages, State of Santa Catarina. According to the pilot’s report, the UFO was yellow and looked like a “gaseous mass in the shape of a disc with an obscured center”. The object remained stationary for the entire sighting. The COMDABRA’s report [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] also stated that: “The information was passed on by TF1 APP-PA after the aircraft landed.”

AUG 28th, 1996. Time: 9:00 pm. Duration: 20 minutes. From the gate of a house in Curitiba, in the State of Paraná, three people followed the movements of an unidentified flying object near the direction of the Moon, towards the East. According to the witness, the object was “very distant”, but with the use of binoculars under a clear night sky of the sighting, he managed to realize that the color of the UFO was red and its shape was round. Still according to the report, the object made vertical movements, “up and down”. No condensation trails were recorded. There was also no photography or filming of the sighting.

AUG 31st, 1996. Time: 20h30. Duration: 25 minutes. A commercial pilot and a passenger on a flight between the city of Palmas (Tocantins), and Goiânia, (Goiás), as they were flying over the Gurupi region, they observed for 25 minutes, with the naked eyes, an unidentified flying object emitting a green light in the edges and a blue light in the center. According to the pilot, the UFO was about 15 NM from the plane, at an altitude of 9,000ft. The object followed a trajectory from Gurupi util it was 90NM from Goiânia.

To the COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command], the pilot also reported: “The object followed the PT-VOL aircraft from the side of the Gurupi up to 90NM in Goiânia. The aircraft had problems with its navigation lights.”
