*NOTE:  Although the city where the sighting took place is not specified in the report, taking into account that the reporting witness lives in a neighborhood called “Bom Retiro” and that his occupation is “rural producer”, it was deduced that the only city found to have the neighborhood “Bom Retiro” as “Rural Zone” is the city of Blumenau, in the State of Santa Catarina.

On the 25th of August, 1997, a rural producer and other person in the region of Bom Retiro*, reported to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] three sightings made by them over the past fifteen days (from the 10th to the 25th of August) of two round silver UFOs observed “on the horizon” in the West direction. According to the report, the two unidentified flying objects were “smaller than a commercial aircraft when en route” and flew at a speed “equivalent to that of an en route aircraft”. Witnesses further claimed that the UFOs followed parallel descending routes from North to South. The last of the three sightings, reported on August 25, lasted about 3 minutes and was filmed, photographed, and was also observed with binoculars by the witnesses. The visibility conditions, according to the reports, were good, with clear skies.

AUG 27th, 1997. Time: 14h30 pm. Duration: more than 16 minutes. In the Pinheirinho region, Curitiba, State of Paraná, a person observed four oval shaped, very bright blue and white UFOs above her residence. According to the witness, the unknown objects moved very slowly at a high altitude and in a “straight path”. According to the COMDABRA’s report [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command], the witness called to report the sighting while it was still happening.

AUG 29th, 1997. Time: 3h30pm. Duration: 30 minutes. In the Pinheirinho region, Curitiba, State of Paraná, six people observed two small unidentified flying objects, similar to silver “shiny balls”. The sighting report was communicated while the event was taking place. According to the witnesses, the two UFOs were moving at a “speed 3 times the speed of a plane that is nearby”, all towards the South. The witnesses, who were in a car, reported that in a certain moment, “the two UFOs stopped and one of them started following the plane”. The sighting was observed under good visibility conditions and a “clear, cloudless sky”, according to the report.

SEPT 22nd, 1997. Time: 19h47. A civil aircraft pilot residing in Cruz Alta, State of Rio Grande do Sul, and two other people reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object in that city on a clear night. The UFO was round, red and green, and moved vertically from 3,500 feet down. According to the pilot’s report, the unknown object was about 40km from the observers, but it was possible to notice a white trail left by it when moving in the region South of Cruz Alta. At the time this report was communicated to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command], that is, at 8:30 pm, the sighting was still happening, according to the witness.

DEC 12th, 1997. Time: 8h13 pm. Duration: 50 seconds. Two people in the Champagnat neighborhood, Curitiba, Paraná, observed an oval, blue and yellow UFO “standing as if it were floating” over the western region of the city. According to the witnesses, the UFO aspect was “bigger than that of a star” being observed in the firmament, it was “similar to a fog with blue/yellow luminosity”. The unknown object hovered at a low altitude of about 70 meters, “more or less 27 floors” and the sighting took place at a place approximately 10 km away from where the observers were.

DEC 26th, 1997. Time: 16h05pm. Duration: 2 hours. Five people observed several unidentified flying objects in the form of bright white dots, near the Bacacheri Airport in Curitiba, Paraná State. According to the witnesses, the UFOs were small and varied in speed as they moved “around” the direction of the Sun from the perspective of the observers. Also according to the witnesses of the sighting, the conditions of visibility at that time were good, with clear sky. They also claimed to have observed light-colored displacement trails left by the objects.

In Bairro Batel in Curitiba, Paraná State, a person with binoculars observed an unidentified flying object, shaped like a white and red dot, for more than three minutes. According to the witness, the sky was clear and the visibility was good when he noticed that a small and clear UFO was stationary above the Northwest region of Curitiba for as long as it was observed.

JAN 13th, 1998. Time: 10h30 pm. Duration: 20 minutes. In the Cabral neighborhood, Curitiba, State of Paraná, two people observed an unidentified and large flying object, shaped like a “big ball with a tail”. The UFO sighting took place on a clear night and the witnesses reported that the object was flying at “considerable speed”, but it was “as if it were sliding” when moving. The unknown object was, according to one of the witnesses, at an altitude about “5 times higher” than the “airplanes that take off from Bacacheri Airport in Curitiba” and from the North they went towards the Coast.

JAN 8th, 1998. In the city of Diamantino, a witness who declined to be identified, reported to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] the fall of an unidentified flying object that happened 40 days before he reported the fact. According to the witness, the UFO was big, blue and made a big noise when it crashed around 8:30pm. The object flew in a South/North direction before falling. The complementary data from COMDABRA brings the observations made by the military who was contacted regarding the sighting:  “The observer declined to identify himself or provide further details. He informed that the object is close to the city of Diamantino-MT on BR-364.”

JAN 13th, 1998. Time: 00h29 am. Duration: 50 minutes. Under good visibility conditions with a sky with few clouds, four people in Curitiba, State of Paraná, spotted a round orange UFO at “very slow speed”. The unidentified flying object was very bright and flew in a straight line heading towards the Serra do Mar. According to the observations made by the COMDABRA’s [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] representative:

“The informant, at a certain point in the completion of the questionnaire, said that she needed to hang up because people were calling her to see the object’s shape change, around 03h52z. She returned the call to conclude the data at 04h01z. It is important to note that the referred informant called COPM II asking about the detection of the object, gave the necessary information and again, at the end of the information, said that “she is curious to know if the radars caught anything”. No information has been released on this fact. She was told that any communication about the event will be passed to her by Brasília at the address mentioned. “
