AUG 23rd, 1978. Time: 00: 40Z. Duration: 15 minutes. The pilot of the PT KPB aircraft reported “with a wealth of details, the UFO sighting between the Paracatu and Cristalina positions” [on the route from São Paulo-SP to Brasília-DF]. The “Radar LP-23 do Gama” also detected the phenomenon, and the same happened to another plane,the Transbrasil QD-460, about an hour earlier, passing through the same position, reporting the phenomenon seen by PT KPB.

Below is the translation of the Flight Controllers’ report from Brasília-DF Airport on the event that occurred on August 23, 1978.

“When on duty on August 22rd, 1978, we were questioned by the Commander of QD-460 [Transbrasil aircraft], about the existence of traffic in the position, in relation to the clock,  9-hours. After our denial, he informed the traffic in the aforementioned position; when asked about the existence of such traffic, he again confirmed the existence of it and later reported that it had disappeared. This happened at 65NM outside Brasília.

After being transferred to the APP, he returned to our frequency and asked us about the range of our radar, which at the time generated doubts about what he wanted, if it was the position he was in relation to the supposed traffic or whether it was actually within radar coverage.

We inform him that it was 65NM. After the dialogue with that aircraft ceased, we initialized a target in the vicinity claimed and managed to place in direct control a target that had quality factor “6”, with speeds that varied between 133 KT / 804 KT. At no time did altitude indication appear.

In the absence of traffic, we tried to keep this target in direct control, awaiting the passage of another aircraft.

Approximately 35 minutes later, the PT-KPB, coming from São Paulo bound for Brasília, when authorized to start descending, did not copy the message from that Center in a timely manner and when it did, it was to inquire about the existence of traffic in the position identical to that previously informed by QD-460.

Reacting to our information about what Commander QD-460 had said, the Commander of PT-KPB informed us that: “I have an object view that is not consistent with those known, a shapeless mass, as if it were a halo, which sometimes remains at the same altitude and for others above the aircraft.” Frequency 125.2 has been blocked by an unidentified carrier since the QD-460 reported the existence of the alleged traffic. The QD-460 was at F310, and PT-KPB at level 280, and both came from São Paulo, the first landed in Brasilia at 00:30 hours Z and the (2nd) second at 01:15 hours Z. /L.C.M. 3S QAT CV and F.M.L.P. – CTA”

Brasília, November 21st, 1979. Time: 5:58 am. Duration: 15 seconds. A Post Office worker, living in Guará I, Distrito Federal, reported “the passage of an unidentified object” of oval shape and “silver color, as if it were made of stainless steel”. According to the witness, the UFO “did not emit light because its color was quite defined by the blue contrast of the sky”. Also according to the description, the UFO made no noise and was seen on a trajectory from Guará I until the Brasília Airport.

“Mr. V.B., a lawyer, resident at  […] n. […], Tatuapé-SP-SP, which delivered, upon receipt, a KODAK Super 8mm color film, with a projection duration of approximately 4 minutes, stating that it was filmed from the street in front of the aforementioned residence by his brother P.A.B., 53 years sales manager. The footage is, according to Mr. V., of a strange object that hovered in the sky, at 02:30 am on December 30, 1978, and there may be a possibility of being a UFO. The machine used was a SUPER 8mm, with a Zoom lens with a magnification capacity of 8 times. The assignment of the film was made for research and is a copy, since the original is in the possession of Mr. P.”

Correspondence from a civilian sent to the Ministry of Aeronautics reporting UFO sighting and contact. Translation below:

“On the night of February 26, 1979, Monday, around 23:45/00:00, I was on the balcony of Mr. D.L.’s residence […], in Ceres (GO ), I looked towards the direction I suppose north or northeast, about 45 degrees from the horizon, and I noticed a blue-green light that moved towards the top, at a speed comparable to that of a modern aircraft. The object stopped, and returned the same way, back to the north-northeast, without turning. Then, it made very rapid evolutions, like a luminous insect. I called my wife who was inside the house and, looking, she, too, saw the light perfectly. Mr. D.L. and his wife also came to observe, and they saw. Now, with incredible speed, the object moved from bottom to top and vice versa, in front of the four observers, an incalculable distance to us, being certain that its size was more or less of a star – that, apparently – that is situated in a higher position, but it had a phosphorescent source that at times confused our view, which was tremulous.

At one point, I moved my hand (I think the right, it doesn’t matter), and the object followed my gesture, but in the opposite direction: if I moved my hand up, it would go down; and vice versa. I did the experiment dozens of times, at different speeds, slowly and suddenly, and the object went in reverse. Horizontally he did not “obey” my gestures, only in the vertical sense. There was great amazement from the three present, with my wife feeling sick.

I remained alone on the balcony, continuing the experience, which seemed to be charming, as is understandable. Then my wife and the friendly couple returned, who were watching the phenomenon. The owner of the house, at my request, tried to gesture to the object, but received no reply, which came only when my initiative.

The show lasted dozens of minutes – I could not calculate, and it was our intention to invite neighbors; but all the houses were closed at that time, and no one was passing by to enlarge the audience and reinforce the testimony.

Mr. D.L., a university student in Anápolis (GO), took a flight course on civil aircraft and, better than I, can judge that these were not conventional ships.

I was absolutely sober, I am not a mystic, I have read some bibliography on these phenomena and I have no intention of publicity. I omit other details of the episode, because it gives them a purely subjective character, but they have not nevertheless altered my impressions on the event after the unexplained demonstration ended.

We left the place and went to a carnival ball, at Ceres Club, in this city, where I reported what I had seen to the Mayor and to a Judge, an Accountant, a lawyer, a Doctor and dozens of others, including Lieutenant R. C., who assists this city and its surroundings. When I left the club – where I couldn’t drink any alcohol, I watched the sky until the BR-153 interchange, returning to the street of the residence that had served as a stage for all that, and then went home. I saw nothing else. My emotional shock worsened yesterday, when I recalled the phenomenon in cold blood, having decided to communicate what happened to Your Excellency, who will better say how to direct any possible research interest, to which I offer myself even under psychological and detection tests. DEC, 12th, 1980. Assunção, Paraguai / and Paranaguá, State of Paraná, Brazil. A man sent photos taken by a friend [see photos of case in ARX.0.0.202] when they were on a tour in Paraguay, at a location about 12 km from the capital Asunción. According to the man’s report, a resident of Paranaguá, State of Paraná, with his friend were waiting for a boat to take them to the indigenous territory of the Maku People and before going, they decided to gather people to take some pictures of the group. Some pictures were taken and when they were developed they noticed three unidentified flying objects.

Later that day, already in Maku territory, and with other tourists, a person from this other group (an American gentleman) noticed “three unidentified flying objects flying in formation and equidistant”, which according to the witness’s report, “appeared in the skies with amazing speed and extraordinary precision of flight, plunging in a parable over the indigenous territory “of the Maku. According to the report, only this man had noticed the three ships static in that place and then moved, because the other people were distracted talking to each other. The same man stated that, before seeing the three UFOs, he had the impression of being observed.

FEB 19th, 1980. Time: 19:00. An operator working for the Control Tower at the Airport of Goiânia, State of Goiás, reported that “he saw a light in his eastern sector” deciding to ask the ACC-BS [Brasilia-DF Approach Control Center] to investigate “if there was any traffic there to inform him”. Responding to the question from the TWR-GO operator, the ACC-BS reported that there was no traffic there. Then, the operator “started to see two more lights in that same sector, close to the Goianápolis position”. After this second sighting, the TWR-GO operator contacted the Tower of Anápolis-GO to inform its observations of the UFOs.

After being warned, the TWR-AN operator contacted the Military Operations Center [COpM], which took over the situation by obtaining information “and concrete data on the occurrence”. At that same moment, a VASP plane already in the process of landing at the Goiânia Airport, decided to abort the landing after the aircraft’s co-pilot observed “an unidentified light crossing in the vicinity of the plane”.

At the Tower of Anápolis, one of the operators reported having observed about “three plots defined in his video [radar], in the position of Goiânia”. In the meantime, after visual and radar confirmations, and after an incident with the VASP plane, COpM “activated its alert officer” who requested “the video recording of the area’s radar coverage”, and also informed CINDACTA and the CODA. This Center “authorized the activation of two combat teams, to be on alert in Anápolis, with the pilots placed in a “ready” position on two F-103 aircraft, already prepared for the alert”.

Another VASP 229 plane that had already taken off from Goiânia to São Paulo “reported seeing an unidentified light in its 4-hour position, and also in its flight level, and apparently following the aircraft. At that moment, VASP 229 was at FL 290, QDR 108 degrees from Goiânia, at a distance of 80 NM “.

The TWR-GO operator, who first spotted and triggered other Centers, continued to spot the lights and follow the vertical, horizontal and random movements of the UFOs, confirming the position of one of the lights that VASP 229 saw.

Finally, according to the report, after analyzing the evidence, reports and radar videos, it was decided that there was no reason to order the takeoff of planes to intercept the unidentified flying objects that night of February 19th, 1980 .

A plane of the Brazilian Air Force, FAB C-115 2350, on August 26th, 1980, with 4 people on board, was flying between Santa Maria, State of Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro-RJ, and when they were near São João do Meriti, State of Rio de Janeiro, the plane had to carry out an evasive maneuver to avoid collision with a UFO.

Reports from the military on board the plane FAB C-115 2350. Translation:

Colonel-Av F.B.M.M.

“At 5:50 pm, on the 26th of August 1980, as a crew member of the C-115 2350, when leaving the “Caxias Position”, at an altitude of 2.000ft, under VFR conditions, with “Meriti” and “Afonsos” heading, aligned on the same magnetic marking, I spotted the ILS Track 09 GL Plane Trajectory, that is, 3-hour high in relation to my aircraft, with an intense yellow light that I thought was, at first, the headlight of an airplane moving in that trajectory towards me.

I informed Control RJ of this observation and received a reply that at that time there was no other aircraft in the vicinity of my plane. As the “light” increased in intensity and moved in Collision Course, I alerted Cap J. L. as he was like (1P), and that he had already observed and was following the displacement of the “light”. Realizing the imminence of a collision, he made a quick evasive maneuver to the right and resumed the AF bow.

After this maneuver, we no longer saw “light” or any silhouette of a flying object. To avoid further speculation, I commented to the crew that we should have suffered an optical phenomenon from the refraction of sunset light, in ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, considering that in FL 090 we had flown for more than 3 hours from Santa Maria (RS), we had found ice formations. […]”

1ST SARGEANT L.B.M

“I, 1S QRT COMM L.B.M., serving in the 1st / 1st GTT, declare that at approximately 17:35P on 08/26/80, when we were returning from Santa Maria in the aircraft C-115 2350, with crew members Cel M. (2P ), Cap JL (1P), 1S M. (1RT), 3S C. (1MC), in the stretch Galeão / Afonsos I felt a sudden deviation of the aircraft to the right, commanded by the 1P, when it was flying at about 1,000 FT. The action immediately taken was to question the ACC RJ regarding the existence of any known traffic in the area, obtaining a negative statement.

Later, it came to my attention that the “sudden deviation” was caused by the existence of a shiny and unidentified object, which was on a collision course.

Larger details I am not able to provide, considering that in that moment I was in the cargo compartment placing the navigation material in the briefcase. Nothing more to declare. LBM -1S / Radio-Telegraphist at FAB 2350./

3RD SARGEANT P.C.F.

I, 3S Q ANV P.C.F. currently serving on the 1st / 1st CTT, I declare that on the 26th of August 1980, when I was returning from Santa Maria [RS] at the FAB 2350, I saw something around 17:35P, near the locality of São João de Meriti [RJ] [something] unidentified with a great beam of light as if it were a large aircraft making, perhaps, a correction for the long end of runway 09 of Galeão. I also observed an almost vertical trajectory described by the object, which at the moment seemed to be hovering in the vertical direction and with a tendency to approach, since we were practically on the same axis. Suddenly when the pilot tried to deviate from his route, the light went out, leaving no trace, that is, nothing visible. Nothing more to declare./PCF 3S-Mechanic of FAB 2350./

MAY 5th, 1980. In the region between Vila Amazônia and Parintins, in the State of Amazonas, when the Corveta of the Brazilian Navy CV Mearim “sailed the Amazon River, in the region of Parintins-AM, between 4:00 am and 4:15 am, some objects, that were not identified by the staff in the service room, were seen; they had a yellowish focus and despite being within range of the radar, they were not captured, being only seen visually by the service personnel at the time.

These objects were standing on the water’s surface, initially three images appeared, and as the Corvette approached, they moved, with the center one rising and the side ones disappearing in opposite directions. In the second appearance, only two objects were seen, both moving towards the city of PARINTINS at great speed. There were assumptions by the Corveta service personnel that it was an airplane or a helicopter, however the time was not right and, in addition, the devices did not make any noise. The figures [see file ARX.0.0.212] show  exactly how it happened. Complementary Data: “The figures [see file ARX.0.0.212] indicate the unidentified luminous objects seen by the Corveta “Mearim”. Such objects had shapes of yellow headlights that were on the water surface, between Vila Amazônia and Parintins”

Transcription of UFO occurrence at TWR-FL [Airport Control Tower of Florianópolis-SC] on DEC 16th,1981.

“At 00:35Z I received a call from a friend asking for information if there was a helicopter over the city, [and] I informed him that negative, since the last plane had taken off for SBPA [Porto Alegre Airport- RS] more than an hour ago. The same told me he was seeing an unidentified flying object, a UFO, which was moving from the vicinity of Clube Penhasco to the south, towards Morro do Cambirela.

At the time of the information, I asked the 3S D. who was on duty to turn off the internal lights of the TWR and the civilian P. of Infraero to turn off the lights of the Patio lighting poles to have a good visibility and we confirmed that there really was a UFO “parked” at about 800 mts of altitude; the light was of a high-intensity silvery yellow color; using the binocular I found that it really was of high intensity and could not be confused with “stars” as it moved slowly in the SW direction, without any noise from conventional engines.

I called the Day Officer  Ten B. who was at the Base on duty in his office to have a look and he confirmed that he was seeing was not a “star”. The UFO remained there for about 7 minutes and then disappeared behind the Cambirela hill. We were in expectation but it didn’t show up anymore./ M.A. -1S Q AT CTA / Service Operator. “

On February 8, 1982, there was an intense communication between the ACC-BS [Area Control Center of Brasília-DF] and the VASP aircraft of flight VP169 to report and confirm unusual traffic in the vicinity of Belo Horizonte [30 miles to the south], State of Minas Gerais. Around 06:49Z, the VP169 triggered the ACC-BS asking:

“Could you report if there is any traffic on your scope there at the nine-hours position of Vasp uno Meia nine?”

The ACC-BS replied that it had not detected anything yet. The VP169 pilot then describes:

The ACC-BS then reinforces that it does not observe anything on the radar in the sector mentioned by VP169.

At 07:11, VP169 informs that the unidentified air traffic signaling “is intense, very intense as if it were an aircraft with” auwarys “on, I would like Brasilia to verify this observation for data purposes possibly, ok?”

At 07:18Z, the pilot of VP 169 was already seventy miles from Barra do Piraí, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, when he could still see the brightness in the 9-hours position in relation to his aircraft. At that moment the ACC-BS informs that it is “receiving a point from fifty miles south of Belo Horizonte-MG, a point exactly at the 9-hours position, following the exact impulse of VASP 196”. Also according to the ACC-BS operator, the object with intense luminosity “precisely follows the VP 169”.

At the same time, another aircraft of flight QD 177 [Transbrasil], fifty miles from Barra do Piraí-RJ, informs the ACC-BS that “this luminosity that the VASP has been reporting we are observing; is in our 11-hours position, ok?

The next day, February 9, 1982, at 06:51Z, an aircraft on the same VP 169 route as the previous day, contacts the ACC-BS to ask if the ACC-BS was “receiving something, accusing something in our 9-hours position “, because the pilot was” seeing a light here, very strong intensity, we would like to approach”. The pilot of the VP asks for authorization to approach the direction of the light in order to verify what it was.

The ACC-BS says that possibly the intense light may be the city of Montes Claros-MG, nearby, but the pilot of the VP169 says that it cannot be, because the light he saw was very high. The VP169 is then allowed to check by approaching and with a bow in the direction facing the light well ahead of the aircraft from a distance. The VP169 then reports that its radar does not report anything in that sector and the aircraft returns to its original course, but continues to perceive small fluctuations in colors, sometimes settling in a light color. VP 169 approaches Belo Horizonte and descends.

The next day, February 10, 1982, at 06:44Z on the same bow with the same flight VP169, there is a pilot’s communication to investigate the occurrence of unforeseen traffic in the vicinity of his route towards Belo Horizonte. VP 169 talks to the pilot of flight QD 035 of TRANSBRASIL about the existence of a light spotted by the two aircraft at a position of 10 degrees above the horizon near the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
