AUG 8th, 1997. Time: 7:00 pm. In the rural area of Ilhéus, a coastal city in the State of Bahia, several people observed a UFO in the shape of a bright light, with a diameter of 10 feet and a red tail. According to the witness who reported the event, the unidentified flying object hovered over one of the farm’s houses [a cocoa dryer], and then flew close to the treetops and left at high speed. It has been reported that some people screamed with fear when they saw the UFO hovering so close to them, about 10 meters, emitting a directional light ahead.
This sighting was officially reported to COMDABRA [Brazilian Aerospace Defense Command] by the farm’s owner’s father, who lived in São Paulo, and sent a letter to the Air Force Command, as following:
“Correspondence of the Director of ‘Jornal Verde’ to the Air Force Command informing the sighting that his son had in the city of Ilhéus, State of Bahia.

I inform to you my son’s report, […],
At 7:00 pm, on August the 8th, an unidentified flying object stationary over the cocoa dryer on his farm, 30 kilometers from Ilhéus, BA.
It flew close to the treetops, making no noise.
Intense bright light, without blinking, without windows.
Red tail of approximately 2 meters.
Approximate diameter: 3 meters.
Directional light at the front.
A few moments [it] was parked over a cocoa barge (dryer).
Several people flocked to see him.
They shouted. The object rose to about 10 meters.
Then it left at great speed.
